USS America (LHA 6) arrived in Callao, Peru for her final port visit on her journey, known as “America through the Americas,” en route to her homeport in San Diego, California.
During the visit, Sailors and Marines assigned to America and the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force (SPMAGTF) South will participate in bilateral exercises with the Peruvian Navy and host distinguished officials aboard the ship.
The ship has already completed port visits in Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, Chile, and transited the Strait of Magellan at the southernmost point of continental South America. While successfully working to strengthen relationships with South American allies, America’s Sailors and Marines have conducted bilateral engagements with valued partner countries and tested the ship’s many capabilities.
As this is USS America’s final scheduled port visit, we will continue to provide updates as the ship, with her 280 embarked U.S. Marines, four MV-22B Osprey and more than 1,000 Sailors, approaches her homeport in San Diego.
