Shoe Dazzle, Shoe Mint, GILT, Chinese Laundry, Dereon Shoes, Jessica Simpson are just some of the shoe lines that you see most often in today’s fashion magazines. Now you can add Halle Berry, Marilyn Monroe and Sarah Jessica Parker to this list. Those who know me know that shoes are my “thing”! I have three bags of shoes in my closet, a shoe rack on my closet door, shoes under my bed and in storage — I know I should probably seek help?!
When I was producing fashion shows across the country, I worked with a variety of shoe companies. They were gracious enough to allow me to keep the shoes and I simply gave them to the models, the heels were way too high for me.
I’ve always had a fascination with shoes and recently discovered that the popularity of shoes dated all the way back to the 1700 hundreds and it was King Louis XVIV that popularizes the “red” heels because back then only nobles could wear red heels.
I love the idea of Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoe line. Because of her I’m aware of Manolo Blanick and Jimmy Choo. Before Sex in the City I had never heard of these people.
I left out another very prominent online shoe company, JustFab. I loved watching the reality show (House of Fab) based on the company and I recently had a unique opportunity to interview some of the ladies in their PR department, Jane Lee and Sarah Beran:
Q. I’m a big fan of shoes, do you ladies both enjoy shoes as well? Is that why you decided to work for JustFab?
Jane: I am a HUGE fan of anything fashion. I live and breathe fashion, so you can say I enjoy hoarding shoes. Shoes were a very small deciding factor in my decision, it was the company culture that enticed me!
Sarah: I have always loved working in the fashion industry, but like Jane said—the company culture is what won me over. Being surrounded by shoes, bags, and jewelry all day is just icing on the cake!
Q. Can you share what you do for JustFab?
Jane: I am the PR Coordinator, I support the team in all the initiatives that we work on.
Sarah: I’m the PR Associate—I work closely with magazine editors and other media outlets to coordinate press opportunities for JustFab.
Q. Do you wear the product yourselves?
Jane: I wear JustFab almost every day, we just have soooo many things to pick from!
Sarah: YES!! I have a JustFab shoe and/or bag that goes with everything in my wardrobe—it’s the best!
Q. How often does the shoes change online?
Jane: There are new styles available every single month! That is what is so awesome about JustFab, you will never ever get bored of shopping on our site!
Sarah: Every month you get new selections—it’s so exciting to checkout out your new boutique at the beginning of each month!
Q. Jane, was Shoe Design your major when you attended FIDM and was it your idea to offer the contest?
Jane: I wish I could say it was my idea, but unfortunately it wasn’t! It was before my time.
