Katy Perry has soundly denied the rumor that her song “Part of Me” has anything to do with her divorce from Russell Brand. That said, the song is an amazing break up anthem. Perry has released the video for her newest single and it’s not what you’d expect.

Instead of showing traditional break up visuals like burning some guys clothes, fights with now sound, punching walls, etc., “Part of Me” has Perry joining the Marines. It’s actually far more dramatic to see her, post break up, hacking off her hair in a bathroom than it would be to see her crying in the rain or something.

Not only that, but we see her go through training, bonding with her fellow Marines and burning the apology letter she gets from her ex. This is not the usual Katy Perry-style video. The makeup is gone and it’s as far from glamorous as it can get, but it pays homage to our troops and the scores of brave women who have joined up.
