Shopping is always a great, fun, thing to do, especially if you can find a bargain and quality products. I recently become aware of an amazing website that caters to federal/government employees, military (active, retired) etc; it’s called GOVX.com. On their website, you will not only find quality products at an amazing price, but you’ll also get a discount!!

A few weeks ago, I visited their wonderful offices in downtown, beautiful, scenic La Jolla and spoke to one of their executives:

Q. Why cater to the Armed Forces? What was the premise behind the website? Can you find any of the brands you offer on the website at any major retailer?

A. GovX is only available to the military, law enforcement, fire, rescue, border patrol, FBI and related government agencies. It is not available to the public. GovX was formed to provide a benefit to those who serve and protect our country, and our communities. Retailers and manufacturers have held a longstanding respect for people who protect and serve us and they acknowledge those serving deserve the privilege of discounts along with recognition for their duty. It’s the least we can do for them…and their families.

We select only premium brands or rising new brands that represent the best-of-breed for their categories. We do not go deep down the quality chain, preferring to stay in the upper tier, yet with vastly more affordable prices that are simply not available anywhere else. Our “off-duty” brands are meant to be fun, more indulgent products that our members might not have otherwise purchased without such a “privileged” discount. While some of these popular brands might be available at some retailers, they would not all be available at any one retailer and certainly not with the exclusive pricing on GovX.com

Q. Your slogan is “Life After Work”, so are the emphasis on the brands presently offered via the site purely recreationally? Any plans to expand the brands to feature more options for women, kids, etc?

A. Great question. As you can see, we also offer military and law enforcement tactical gear with similar discounts and we have just added home furnishings, jewelry and, indeed, you will soon see more for children. We emphasize the “Life After Work,” because we know it’s a lot more fun, and helpful to the family, to make purchases beyond work-related equipment. The idea is that GovX is a benefit for the entire family.

Q. Generally when I feature a brand, I will offer discounts to the many readers of the blog and/or the newspaper, what type of discount can we offer them from GovX.com?

A. We offer discounts of 25% – to 40% and more to your readers who are active, reserve or retired military but their military or government status must be verified to get the discount on GovX.com.

Q. If membership is free, what happens with the data that is collected? Can any active or former member of the armed forces join? What about their spouse and children? Is there an age limit to join?

A. Any active, reserve or retired member of the military can join, no matter their age and membership is absolutely free. Additionally, any GovX Member can invite their spouse to also have a GovX account, which will remain for as long as the primary account holder’s membership is active. We recognize and appreciate the hardships and sacrifices the family makes when their military member serves our country, so we extend the GovX benefit to each member’s spouse.
Any data we collect regarding our members is subject to an exacting privacy police that, among other things commits to our members that their information will not be sold or used by any third parties other than in connection with fulfilling their orders.

Q. Your offices are located in beautiful, scenic La Jolla, any plans to have a “free standing” store offering the various brands to the military as well, perhaps on or near various bases in SD county?

A. We think it’s critical that GovX be located in one of the Nation’s largest military towns. We carry some items at our operations center as a convenience but we intend to remain an e-commerce company. The convenience, efficiencies and savings from the GovX e-commerce model, which includes our manufacturer-partners who fulfill each order, accrues to the benefit of our members.

Q. Is GovX.com associated with any non-profits or have a foundation of its own?

A. Absolutely, GovX has an important give-back commitment within its program. We have the GovX Foundation & Association Benefits Program of which a number of military branch associations participate, including the Marine Corps Association & Foundation, the Air Force Association and the AFA Veteran Benefits Association, the National Association for Uniformed Services along with others who are in the process of integrating or approving our program.

This program allows their members to have single sign-on easy access to GovX.com and we give back a portion of our proceeds to their foundations. We also make regular donations to, and otherwise offer our support for, various military and law enforcement associations and their foundations.
