SAN DIEGO — Hundreds of volunteers provided medical care, counseling, food, clothing and other help to San Diego's homeless veterans over the weekend during the start of the annual Stand Down. The three-day event, hosted by Veterans Village of San Diego, was held at San Diego High School's athletic fields, where more than dozen military-style tents were erected to house and help the hundreds of homeless veterans who participated. Last year, 928 homeless veterans took part in Stand Down, according to VVSD. "This year over 1,000 homeless veterans participated", said Dale Smith, Commander of VFW Post 3783 in Ramona.
